I wouldn't bother with the vinegar. Conditioner and combing with nitty gritty comb every night works a treat. Just comb each night until you can find no more live lice.
We brought one big, fat headlouse home from Hesfes with us (good job we checked!) and that one had produced more than twenty tiny babies in a couple of days. But wet combing with nitty gritty has got rid of the lot very quickly.
If the kids sleep with soft toys, apparantly putting the toys in the freezer kills the lice. Because, I'm sure that just like me you have loads of space left in your freezer for elephants, teddy bears, crocodiles, rabbits, kangaroos, koalas...
