Check the diaries, Grit

Of course not all home ed days go exactly to plan. Some might even call them a complete waste of sodding time as we bomb across the countryside to the wonderful English Heritage site of neolithic flint mines: the wonder that is Grimes Graves.

To discover it is shut.

i might have to write this in disguise, but found rievaulx abbey to be shut. so convince we were that it was supposed to be open and they had shut it without warning due to snow, we vaulted over the gate and went in anyway - blush. it was fab in the snow mind you

That's what you should have done, grit. vaulted the gate of stormed it or something. You're brave enough to do such a thing.

you are right ladies! i didn't think of leaping over the gate!

ohmygoodness, i have really let myself down there.

if i had done so, the gritlets would have trailed on behind me worrying about the police. the little grits are sometimes very rule bound. unless it's me making up the rules of course.

the mine itself is locked so gate vaulting would not have worked. Also I believe the lower gate gets locked so you can't drive up? That's a long, long walk!
